01/13/2003 Entry: "army of one"

You're an army of one.
Phone just rang. It said US GOVT on the caller id, and I thought it was my sister Jane calling from work. She hardly calls Joan and I and was kinda glad to think that she thought of us. Turns out it was Sargent Mabry from the Army recruiting office in New London. After 2 years they're still trying to recruit me! I understand the pressure those guys have to recruit a certain number of people within a certain amount of time or else they're fired, but c'mon. Haven't ya'll gotten the picture yet? I don't want to join the army. I'm not a fighting person. I'm just happy I get access into the naval base already. But if you're interested...

And I still don't remember giving my sister's phone number to any recruit. Oh well. We had a good talk about football, none of my friends ever talk football with me so I was kinda glad to talk on the phone this time around.

Your bro too it too far! I feel bad for the guy for wasting his tim... =\

Cydele pretty much summed up my thoughts. I'm aware of the benefits and my dad was also in the military. If I didn't want to go to college then the military would be another option for me and I've thought about it for years! Like I told the recruiter, I'm already settled in school, doing what I want to do for myself and I have no strong feelings for getting out of it now.

Meghan- I am quite aware about the benefits, I am a military brat, my dad was in the military for 20+ years. If I didn't know what I wanted to do in life, I would CONSIDER joining the military. But I am a year away from graduating from a GREAT nursing school, and I have constantly talked about that with the recruiters when they call. One guy even said, "yes I understand, it wouldn't be practical if you left since you're already in the right path."

Why don't you guys wanna join the army? I was just doing a search on google, and it cam up with this so i read it. But for Cydele, your brother is really mean, that guy was just doinghis job, and he was mean to the poor guy. I understand if you don't want to join the army, but you might want to consider it, it does have a lot of benifits.(and no, I'm not a recruiter)Think about it.

haha oh my god, they call me ALL THE TIME TOO!! I'm just like "No I'm happy with what I'm doing" Then they keep trying to persuade me and I'm like, "NO THANKS!!!!!"

My brother gets it a lot too, and the guy was like, "Let me come over." My brother was like, "Well your not gonna change my mind but if you want to you can." The man came over for a few hours trying to recruit my brother, and at the end the guy was like, "So have I sparked an interest for you, even a little bit?" My brother was like, "No, now I'm really sure I don't want to join the army." The guy was soooo sad and he just left. My brother let it go too far.
