10/16/2002 Entry: "Bali bombings"

America, are we really that selfish not to care about the pain that others feel? US press has hardly acknowledged the Bali bombings in Australia, their own 9/11, that any mere mention of it here only reports on the 2 killed and 3 injured Americans and considers the rest of the dead "foreigners." Hello! Those in Australia don't consider the 183 dead, foreigners, but their own citizens. For an event that is "fast emerging as the biggest single tragedy in Australia's post war history" we seem pretty lazy to lend some sympathy to those who are suffering at this time. Whatever.

Anyways, at least include these people in your thoughts and/or prayers. As well as those killed and injured in a bus bombing in the Philippines. To know that more innocent people are dead puts an even bigger hole in my heart. Think of others, people.

after 9/11, australians cried and prayed along with america. we held rememberence services for all that perished, not just the aussies who died. I live in south australia and we air the NBC today show here. in the 1-2 minutes that they dedicated to the bali bombings , not one mention of the 160 aussies who were killed, just the one american and few injured.
Immediately after 9/11 we sent everyone from firemen to cadaver dogs to help search for victims are there any american officials in bali at the moment? the germans sent people, even the japanese. where are the americans in our hour of need. I cant help but feel a touch resentful as we seem to be so unimportant to you.
God bless america...

Thank you.

Many of those killed are young people of my own age. Many are fighting for their lives in hospitals with horrific burns.

Why is it that the majority of those outside of America (like me) are beginning to feel that only American lives and American interests matter - such a horrible tragedy has only warranted a few minutes of air time in your media and by tomorrow it will be forgotten.

We felt for you during the attacks of Sept 11..... now it is time for the same respect.

I spent some time in NY just before the attacks and I thought it to be a wonderful city ... but one opinion has continued to stay with me - The American public are ignorant to everything outside of their country.

A list of all those Dead and Missing:

Thank you for taking the time to
remember.
