Have an old cell phone you don't use anymore? Don't throw it away! The batteries and parts of the phone contain nickel, cadmium, and other toxic elements and there are thousands of cell phones thrown away in dumps every year. Most of them can still be used by others. Know about The Wireless Foundation. Try donating your old cell to a battered-women's shelter or any other local orgatization so that clients can make emergency phone calls. [Link via ConsumerReports.org]
